“Fandangos del Bicho o… La Nueva Anormalidad”, a new José Torres Vicente single featuring Karo Sampela is out!

During the lockdown in Spain my pal and mate José Torres Vicente asked me if I was interested in tracking some homemade percussion to his “fandangos flamencos” based song. Of course I was!

The result from my part is made using a salad bowl, our bathroom door, an electric  ventilator played with rods and a parsley pot played with mallets as well as some field recorded samples from a Korean market place and Madrid.

New Joonas Widenius Trio album out!

The third album by this energetic and rockin’ trio is released on Rockadillo Records and Nordic Notes. The record is produced by the great Colin Bass. I am really happy to collaborate as a drummer & percussionist and also specially happy and proud of the detail that there is one song, where Joonas gave me the possibility to record the drums in my own Mo-Chuisle Studios. There has already been some really nice reviews on the album in the Finnish and German press.

New Anna Murtola album out!

The world’s northernmost flamenco singer Anna Murtola released her debut album “Fuego por dentro” on November. The album is produced by Joonas Widenius and released on the Alba Records label. I am really happy to participate as a percussionist on this one. We had a blast gigging in Finland on the album release tour, especially on the Etnosoi! Festival in Helsinki, where Venla Ilona Blom, Helmi Camus, Ali Haithem, Hilda Länsman and Stiliana Ravelska were performing with us as special guests.

La Suite del Reloj

This year have begun getting me to Sevilla to rehearse with José Torres Trío a new show called “La Suite del Reloj” with dancer Ramón Martínez, singer/multi instrumentalist Cristian de Moret and actress/light technician Carmen Mori. It was premiered at MADFeria festival in Matadero, Madrid in 22nd January. Next stop with the show will be Estonia where we will have a little tour in concert halls organised by Eesti Kontsert, an Estonian state concert institution. We are going to have Estonian dancer Maria Rääk as guest artist and we are going to offer a concert version of “La Suite del Reloj”. As a drummer it is always fascinating to play in concert halls as the audience will hear even the tiniest brush sweep.

Some more informatión on José Torres Trío,  “La Suite del Reloj” or in our tour in Estonia.

Happy New Year 2016!

Happy New Year to everybody! In my case the year 2016 will start with an interesting one month trip to Finland to work with some great musicians and dancers. First we’ll start the long waited recording sessions for forthcoming Joonas Widenius Trio album at Global Music Centre Recording Studios in Helsinki. Just after the sessions there will be some days of rehearsal and the premier of a new dance piece by Aho & Lundén Company. For me it will be really interesting to perform that piece, because it´s not only about playing some percussion, but I’ve also written some of the music on that piece.  After the premier I’ll have an opportunity to have some days off and visit my family in Tampere area and then it will be about returning to Helsinki  to work with Compañía Kaari & Roni Martin in Helsinki Documentary Film Festival called DocPoint and Helsinki Flamenco Festival. So it’s going to be a really inspiring beginning for the year 2016. I’m just hoping it will not be too cold up there in the North…
